Help Make Halton Hills More Bird Friendly
Inspired by the Northern Cardinal, our official Town Bird, the Bird Friendly Pledge invites residents, schools, businesses, and community groups to take simple actions that help birds thrive.

From Appreciation to Action
Last year, the Town Bird vote brought the community together in an inspiring way. More than 4,000 votes were cast across two rounds of voting as residents helped choose the Northern Cardinal as the official Town Bird of Halton Hills.
The response showed something powerful: people care deeply about birds and the natural world around them.
Now, the Bird Friendly Pledge is turning that appreciation into action.
Together, we’re helping create a safer and more supportive place for birds, one action at a time.
Start With Two Actions
You don’t need to do everything. Even small actions can make a meaningful difference for birds.
Start where you are and build over time.
✓ Make windows safer for birds
✓ Plant native flowers, shrubs, or trees
✓ Reduce unnecessary outdoor lighting at night
✓ Keep cats indoors or supervised outdoors
✓ Join a local stewardship or community nature event
✓ Learn about local and migratory birds
Take the Bird Friendly Pledge
Birds are part of what makes Halton Hills feel like home. They connect us to the seasons, the land, and each other.
I will take at least two meaningful actions each year to:
✓ reduce risks to birds
✓ support habitat and biodiversity
✓ encourage awareness and community care
I understand that participation will look different for everyone and that small actions matter.
Together, we are helping build a more bird-friendly Halton Hills, one action at a time.
Small actions, multiplied across a community, can create meaningful change.
